Project Overview:
As the 'Sweet Voyagers', our team comprises 11 individuals from diverse backgrounds who share a common dedication to designing solutions that benefit communities worldwide. Throughout a transformative 10-week journey, we have skillfully applied various frameworks and theories we have acquired, exploring the vital role of designers in shaping positive outcomes. Our collaborative efforts have been closely intertwined with the Butler Street CDC in Atlanta, GA, as we strive to revitalize the cherished "Sweet Spot" by creating a vibrant pocket park that fosters a sense of community and belonging.

My Role:
As the project manager and a member of the research and design team, my role involved overseeing team roles, responsibilities, and deadlines, analyzing research insights, and developing project posters, presentations, and tokens. I was responsible for distilling complex information into clear and visually appealing materials that were utilized to effectively communicate our project findings and showcase our work at the project's conclusion.
Design Process:
Phase 1- Context
In the initial phase of our project, we embarked on a comprehensive secondary research process to delve into the rich history of Sweet Auburn and explore various placemaking concepts. We conducted brainstorming sessions to generate innovative ideas and conducted preliminary interviews to gather valuable insights. This groundwork enabled us to establish a solid framework that would guide our subsequent design efforts effectively.

Phase 2- Charette
Embracing a place-led approach for the future necessitates active community involvement. To ensure community input, we organized a Charette, a session dedicated to gathering feedback from the local residents. Through engaging visuals and interactive activities, our objective was to facilitate the community's understanding of their desired aesthetics, ambiance, and overall vision for the pocket park. Our intention was to gain deeper insights into their aspirations and aspirations for the park's design.
Phase 3- Sweet Reflections

Looking Forward
Through 10 weeks of observation, extensive research, and active engagement with the Butler Street CDC, we have gained invaluable insights on the importance of meeting a community's needs in a meaningful way. Our aim is for the findings of our research to serve as a valuable resource for future designers, illustrating effective approaches when collaborating with clients and communities. We hope to provide the Butler Street CDC and the Auburn Avenue community with a comprehensive guide to guide future development of the park. Our work in revitalizing Auburn Ave has only just begun, and we eagerly anticipate the exciting journey that lies ahead. We extend an invitation to join us at the Sweet Spot as we continue to make a positive impact together.
